!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Over the last two decades, we have been drowned in an ocean of of car based trucks. Most of the time, clueless individuals refer to them as trucks, or even worse, as Jeeps.
The Hyundai Tucson fits this description quite well. Look at that picture, you see a desert, rocks, ruggedized bumper covers, roof rack, mud and cactus's. The marketing agency that took this picture most definitively wanted to lure people into thinking that this cheap lifted econobox is in a fact a Jeep, and it worked.

But that's not my point. With so many cars masquerading as trucks, it's getting a bit old, where's the novelty ? Let's have a look at all the variation of car based faux-trucks we had so far:
The faux roadster:

So yes, I think we are ready for a new category, the faux cars ! Imagine a truck based supercar, a truck based econobox, truck yeah !
In the lead picture, we can see the car of the President of America. For all we know, it is based on a Top-Kick truck chassis. The proportions are terribly awesome. It's shows superiority, it is commanding, just imaging having that thing in your rear view mirror, you'll bow in submission faster that if it were a Panther ! People would like that.
So far, the closest thing we had of a truck based sedan is the Cadillac Escalade EXT.
4 doors, luxury, premium looking and truck cover, but I think they could take it to the next level and make it look like an un-stretched version of the President's car. A coupe and a convertible could also be made easily, and that would be awesome.

I bet the police would love it.

I want that new-gen EXT.
Too bad they killed it.

That's essentially a crew cab pickup with a hard tonneau. Judging by the mall parking lot they're already pretty popular.

they did its called a p71. Crown Vic's were body on frame land RWD with a v8 like a lot of trucks but lower

Interesting. Why don't the police buy it?

Oh no, I thought it was real. Are they still making the Avalange ?

Some of Toyotas earliest post-war Sedans were based on Truck chassis, from the SC/SD to atleast the RR they were based on essentially the same truck chassis as the Type SB truck and BJ (Landcruiser), complete with live axles and leaf springs front and rear.
Fast forward 40 years, and we have the Hilux based Toyota Classic:

Avalanche died 2013. The EXT followed close behind.

they went out of production in 2012.

That Toyota Classic is beautiful !
It's like a PT cruiser done right.

Why did they do something stupid like that?
![]() 02/02/2015 at 11:48 |

This is a truck based car, not a car based truck. There's a real ladder frame under there.

Most of the time, clueless individuals refer to them as trucks, or even worse, as Jeeps.
Other than the Wrangler, the last body-on-frame Jeep to be sold was the 1991 Grand Wagoneer.

The police bought them almost exclusively until Ford stopped making them in 2011.

i do actually...always liked car body on truck frame conversions for some reason. just pointing out you can always make your own or possibly even find one, since they don't really exist from the manufacturer.

The last major update was in 2003, apparently it wasn't worth it for Ford to update it for newer safety standards like Stability Control.

I've always kind of wondered why GM hasn't done a new full-size Cadillac on their truck platform. The dimensions are right. Just lower the ride height and drop on a properly styled car body and you'd have a proper BOF RWD Cadillac with traditional size.

Blackwood, you're thinking of a Lincoln Blackwood.
